The Ram Bar

University of Exeter, Stocker Rd, Exeter EX4 4PZ, UK – 01392 723563

Can get quite busy so finding a table is often a task in itself if you’ve come for food. Food prices are reasonable, however some of the bottled drinks seem a bit on the expensive side. Often used for quizzes, societies and streaming sports so provides a lot of entertainment value.

Good university bar, food is a decent price and tastes good but can take a while to come. Quiz nights on Mondays are also a laugh but it can get very busy during peak hours.

The Hour Glass

21 Melbourne St, Exeter EX2 4AU, UK – 01392 258722

What a superb little find. Quirky pub with an array of wines to complement the food. We had the Duck & a risotto which were both superb. Extremely friendly staff and the odd cat walking along the bar. Dog friendly & a lovely atmosphere. Can't wait to go back.

Traditional beers with excellent food in a cosy venue full of characterful nooks and crannies. Marred only by occasionally gruff service.

Henry's Bar

Mount Pleasant Rd, Exeter EX4 7AB, UK – 01392 202740

Now under new management and doing well. Varying selection of draft ales from £3 a pint... Rob still playing great background music in the afternoons...

Uses a deck of cards as vouchers and friendly bar staff, it has a great atmosphere and very competitive prices.

Bill's Exeter Restaurant

32-33 Gandy St, Exeter EX4 3LS, UK – 01392 259227

Really polite helpful staff! It was my 4 yr olds first day wearing glasses and they were happy to oblige in helping bribe him. They brought a giant chocolate coin to help :). They were also really accommodating with food for our son. Our food was delicious too with a wide variety on the menu but by far the staff make that place a treasure.

Well... What a place. What a find. Polite staff, friendly service and excellent food. We waited for a really long time for our food to arrive and just as we were beginning to grumble, to ourselves, that it was taking so long, we were informed that the tray had been dropped and they were cooking the entire order from scratch. The quality of the food, when it did arrive, was amazing. Once we had finished, we were approached by, we presume the manager, to be offered yet another apology and the entire meal and drinks were free! Will definitely be returning the next time we're in Exeter! Top marks! 😊

Frankie & Benny's

Alphington Rd, Marsh Barton, Exeter EX2 8LH, UK – 01392 424399

Food was good but not cheap, luckily we had vouchers from their app. I don't think the food is worth the standard cost. Staff are really good and friendly.

Enjoyed every visit to this restaurant. Fair price and good quality food. Highly recommended.

Unit 8, Alphington Park, Marsh Barton Trading Estate, Ashton Road, Exeter EX2 8AA, UK – 01392 427541

Chiquito Exeter fab place. Easy to get to, Free car park, great atmosphere , great choice of food, prices reasonable but even better with a food discount card as you get 50% off. We were served by a fantastic lady called Nicole D. So lovely, very professional, her customer service is up there with the best I've ever had. She made the evening so easy, her service was flawless. Highly recommend Chiquito Exeter.

Went in for Sunday breakfast. Great choice with a few Mexican twists if you want or standard English breakfast available. Very pleasant waiter and the food was excellent value and nicely presented. Good sized portions.

Chinese Restaurants serving the Exeter area

Dee Yi

21A Heavitree Rd, Exeter EX1 2LD, UK – 01392 426600

Excellent food that was fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. A very quick and friendly service. We would recommend and will definately be back! Scrumptious and tasty, the words of 2 children!

Best Chinese food in exeter

Tang Shian

80 South St, Exeter EX1, UK – 01392 430080

Recently discovered and now a firm favourite - definitely the best Chinese restaurant in Exeter. Not too greasy and everything tasted fresh and authentic. The host was a lovely lady and we felt really well looked after. Will be going back very soon!

I am delighted to have finally discovered an authentic Chinese restaurant in Exeter! The menu is clean and concise (the focus is on exceptional dishes and quality/chefs specials over quantity of choice, something I prefer to a bombardment of the senses with every dish imaginable listed) and made with individually delicious ingredients. This is not your typical greasy Chinese, the food is in the upper ranks of dining in Exeter and is seriously underrated. The staff are extremely friendly and polite and quick to make recommendations based on your palette. I must recommend the Three Treasures dish (which is vegetarian yet challenges any meat dish on the menu) and the chilli squid, which is the best I've tried anywhere. I was very pleasantly surprised to eat here on date night and will be making it a regular occurance.

7 Wok

10-12 Palace Gate, Exeter EX1 1JA, UK – 01392 211888

Great value for money. Sometimes the quality of the food suffers due to poor customer turnover, but the staff are friendly, pleasant and it's all you can eat!

Very pleasant staff, made to feel welcome straight away, didn't have to wait long to be seated either, less than a minute. The food is topped up regularly, there's a wide choice and it's all cooked very well and is extremely tasty.

Indian Restaurants and takeaways in or near Exeter

Ganges Restaurant

156 Fore St, Exeter EX4 3AT, UK – 01392 272630

We visited the restaurant over the weekend and it was very busy. The service was prompt and the food arrived in good time despite how busy it was. We all had some amazing dishes and a great time. I would recommend Ganges to anyone. Will be going again in a couple of weeks.

As Indian cuisine goes, this is one of the best curry houses in Exeter. The service was attentive but the cost of the meal soon added up with little extras (poppadoms and dips were charged separately, and although they were lovely, it was expensive for what it was), and these were not explicitly advertised as extras. Enjoy the good food but beware of hidden cam extras.

Real India

28 South St, Exeter EX1 1EB, UK – 01392 211222

I aked for a lamb and honey dish they said they could adapt the duck and honey dish for me. Unfortunately i got the duck dish anyway but they told me it was lamb. However the dish was excellent.

It was the first time that I tried indian cuisine and I have to say it was delicious. The waiter was really endearing. I will come back again.

The Gandhi Indian Cuisine

7/8 New N Rd, Exeter EX4 4HH, UK – 01392 272119

Fantastic meal here tonight. The food was amongst the best I have tasted. I would recommend the chicken dopiaza. The staff are extremely friendly and the service was very quick. The bill at the end was also very reasonable. I will certainly be going here the next time I am in Exeter again. Totally deserving of the full 5 stars.

A classic English style Indian resturant, if you're looking for a traditional (English) style curry you won't go wrong here. Wide selection of the usual suspects all the way through the menu, plus one or two more interesting dishes, e.g. Sea Bass curry. Prompt and efficient service, though the waiters are more concerned with serving you than entertaining you.

Italian Pasta and Pizza Restaurants

Ask Italian

5 Cathedral Cl, Exeter EX1 1EZ, UK – 01392 427127

The closest thing to Italy outside of Italy. One of the best pizzas I ever had. Great service :)

We went for our 3 year anniversary. And we really enjoyed our time, our waiter Shaun was amazing. If you could promise he would be our waiter every time we came we would be there more often. Truly amazing!

21 Gandy St, Exeter EX4 3LS, UK – 01392 274737

Great food, worth the price. However, I was a bit disappointed with the staff. My friends and I reserved the Christmas menu, told them what we wanted beforehand, and then told us that they run out of something from the menu. It felt like they didn't know what they were doing. Anyway, they were really kind, helpful and nice to us throughout the dinner. Would probably go back if I want a fancy dinner.

Recently refurbished, a great place to eat and chat over lunch. Friendly service and good food. Loved the pizza i had last time, see the photos I've posted. I would recommend this restaurant as one of the best places to eat in Exeter.

Quo Vadis

88 Fore St, Exeter EX1 2RR, UK – 01392 273705

Great evening spent here on New Year’s Eve, delicious and authentic Italian food, friendly atmosphere and excellent value for money. Host Isabella and chef Oliver were really welcoming and we look forward to coming back again soon for another slice of the gorgeous tiramisu 😃 x

Fantastic Italian food. Great choice great service at a reasonable price. Tip top.

Vegetarian or Vegan Restaurants

Jasmine Thai Restaurant

153 Fore St, Exeter EX4 3AT, UK – 01392 689988

Went here with my girlfriend for a lovely meal. I'm vegan whereas she is not and normally we have to settle for either her eating vegan at a vegan place or me eating a sub-standard vegan option. This place catered perfectly for both. We both went for pad Thai noodles (would definitely recommend) and the food was delicious! The service was nice and friendly too! They even had a vegan wine choice which was pleasing. Would recommend to anyone visiting exeter for a lovely meal out.

A pleasant welcome and good food. Bring your own good company and you are all set to enjoy yourselves.

15 North St, Exeter EX4 3QS, UK – 01392 258473

Enjoyed a nice wee meal at Herbies. Discovering vegan haggis was still on the specials menu from Burns Night obviously meant I was legally obliged as a Scotsman in England to order it (it was delish!) — followed by an utterly dreamy and HUGE sundae called a Heaven in Devon, made with vegan brownies, packed in with dairy free ice cream, cream and custard, then topped with fruit and a biscuit. Divine! It is defo a dessert for 2 people though… I got halfway through and had to give up fearing I was going to pop!!! Casual, laid back surrounds made for a pleasant spot to sit and eat good food with good conversation.

The best place I have ever eaten! I'm not vegetarian or Vegan but WOW this place is epic! Such effort goes into their food, if you go to Exeter without eating here you're an idiot

3 Cathedral Yard, Exeter EX1 1HJ, UK – 01392 494444

Beware the owners! While the food and ambience is very good, the owners can be quite brash. The more money you spend, the nicer they get. The serving staff are lovely, but the owner and his wife have an air of looking down on paying customers which can be quite unsettling.

Outstandingly delicious. Fabulous interiour. Excellent service.

Wine Bars and Cocktail Bars

Rendezvous Wine Bar

38-40 Southernhay E, Exeter EX1 1PE, UK – 01392 270222

Really nice little restaurant. Good quality food and a nice selection of dishes. Not the cheapest place but if you go between 6.30pm and 7.30pm there is a two course deal which works well. The staff are absolutely brilliant, really friendly and quick service. Only thing to note is there are quite steep steps down to access the restaurant so it may be difficult for some people. Well worth a visit!

Truly delicious food and excellent service. 😊Only fault for us is having to run the gauntlet of smokers on order to get inside 😕

11 Gandy St, Exeter EX4 3RP, UK – 01392 434184

Fast service and good food! It appears to be a bar/cafe which is a mixed vibe as there are people there drinking and some having a late lunch.

I like this place for a lunchtime pitstop with its colourful decor, relaxed ambience, and central location. Great place to people watch from a window table. Awesome nachos and good prices. No experience of evenings though.

The Bike Shed Theatre and Cocktail Bar

162/3 Fore St, Exeter EX4 3AT, UK – 01392 434169

Visited during the 50's and 60's night, very friendly atmosphere with good music. Unique decor and an enjoyable experience.

Good selection of drinks at reasonable prices. Good service. Spacious and comfortable. LGBT friendly. Will definitely come back here.
