Starz Bar and Grill

18 Lower N St, Exeter EX4 3ET, UK – 01392 256625

Great place, especially if you're in a big group! The food is really reasonably priced and a great place to start your night. Mid week this can be a great place to eat for just two people. I would highly recommend the fajitas! The bar in the basement is a great place to go after dinner as it feels like you're in a different place. Delicious cocktails.

Good vibe with good music but i ordered a sirloin steak medium rare. It came back medium to well done cold and couldn't replace it as that was the last one. On the contrary i was served a 16 oz rump steak which was well cooked and i enjoyed. Despite this I would return.

The Ram Bar

University of Exeter, Stocker Rd, Exeter EX4 4PZ, UK – 01392 723563

The University Bar, great for food, especially with an updated menu, and fairly inexpensive drinks. The "baskets" are great for quick meals, and service is fairly swift. It opens early, but only starts serving alcohol and main meals at 11.30. Food is served until 20.30, however you can continue drinking after that! Certain nights are dedicated, such as Rameoke or football matches, and the music that plays is controllable through the SubTV app, which can be clunky but does mean you have a say in the playlists.

Can get quite busy so finding a table is often a task in itself if you’ve come for food. Food prices are reasonable, however some of the bottled drinks seem a bit on the expensive side. Often used for quizzes, societies and streaming sports so provides a lot of entertainment value.

Henry's Bar

Mount Pleasant Rd, Exeter EX4 7AB, UK – 01392 202740

Well worth a visit, Been living in Exeter a year now and its the best pub I've been to so far.

Now under new management and doing well. Varying selection of draft ales from £3 a pint... Rob still playing great background music in the afternoons...

Bill's Exeter Restaurant

32-33 Gandy St, Exeter EX4 3LS, UK – 01392 259227

Bills was an amazing restaurant with incredible food (especially the butter not squash stew) which I would highly recommend to everyone. The desserts are well presented and taste beautifully ;The yummy pancakes to be precise. The staff were lovely and was kind enough to give me a free gift bag with apple juice and sweets. I do have to say the music options were nice too! Also the toilet had lovely smelling soap.

Lovely food and gorgeous cocktails . However, they don't handle large group orders well at all. Absolute chaos with missing food and terrible timing. Also, while the downstairs is wheelchair accessible, the upstairs group area was not and we had no warning. Our wheelchair user had to be carried upstairs. The food was generally lovely so I would recommend it to small groups of diners. Also note someone else in my group would not recommend the steak.

Jasmine Thai Restaurant

153 Fore St, Exeter EX4 3AT, UK – 01392 689988

Excellent food. Great variety. Good value and excellent attentive but unobtrusive service. Highly recommended.

Very nice & pleasant place!! Food was very tasty & great value. Highly recommend!!

Pizza Hut Restaurants

5, Exe Bridges Retail Park, The Exebridge Centre, Exeter EX4 1AH, UK – 01392 273424

Great place to eat! Unlimited salad and soft drinks, great detection of starters and desserts (including an unlimited ice cream bar), plus sides and, at certain times, an all-you-can-eat buffet of pizza, pasta and salad. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere is light and airy, with lots of room to seat from couples to large groups. If you don't see what you want on the menu, you can always adjust an item to be exactly what you want. All in all, a most enjoyable meal.

I opted for the buffet option and a refillable soft drink. The pizza was great, especially the one with chicken, sweetcorn and BBQ sauce and the buffet option have me the opportunity to try several new pizzas that I would not have wanted to risk buying a full pizza for. The refillable drinks were great and unlike drinks such as cherry Coke, the different flavour shots actually made a significant difference to the taste. I personally recommend the Coke/Pepsi with a shot of strawberry. It's refillable so you might as well give it a shot right?

Chinese Restaurants serving the Exeter area

Tang Shian Chinese Restaurant

80 South St, Exeter EX1 1BZ, UK – 01392 430080

When you visit Tang Shian you will be given the option of two menus. The authentic Chinese or the Western Menu. If you're after a western Chinese then you've made the wrong choice. This place has a fantastic authentic Chinese food menu that whilst not being your average selection is packed with great options. Venture out of your comfort zone and try some quality food. This place will not disappoint.

Deserves a lot more credit than a 3.8 star rating. Me and my family have been going for about 3 years now. The staff are lovely, friendly and attentive. The food is delicious and the decor is beautiful. Highly recommend.

Dee Yi

21A Heavitree Rd, Exeter EX1 2LD, UK – 01392 426600

Staff are great, they put lots of effort into it while having to juggle 4-5 orders at the same time in a small place.

Best Chinese I have had for ages, lovely food, lovely service, hope to be back again soon.

7 Wok

10-12 Palace Gate, Exeter EX1 1JA, UK – 01392 211888

Great value all you can eat We visited on a quiet day which meant no fighting for food but some dishes had been there a little while so weren't at their best. But otherwise it's a. Great place for a great appetite. And good selection of dishes on throughout the day

Food delivered fast! Delicious, fresh & piping hot! Can't complain. Staff friendly over the phone to & very polite. Order exactly as described on the set menu. Thanks!

Indian Restaurants and takeaways in or near Exeter

Ganges Restaurant

156 Fore St, Exeter EX4 3AT, UK – 01392 272630

Nice modern restaurant with modern decor and music. Menu covers all the usual favourites with their own take on specials. Service was pretty quick even on a Saturday night. They do take-aways as well. Curries we all had went down well and the nan bread was very good accompiament.

Our first visit and only for takeaway so a limited review. Unfortunately we found the food disappointing. Mostly lacking flavour. Maybe it was the main chef's night off but our high hopes were not met. To be fair we've eaten in some amazing South Asian restaurants over the years so the bar is set high. Our search for a good Indian restaurant in Exeter continues...

Real India

28 South St, Exeter EX1 1EB, UK – 01392 211222

Ate there last night. Sooooooo good. We had the set menu for two. My new favorite Indian restaurant. Great staff and the Hungarian team member was fantastic. Thanks for a cracking evening!

Good quality food and service but lacking in ambience. The prices and the food quality say "restaurant", but the furnishings, decor and toilets say "cafe in need of some TLC". Absolutely fine for a casual curry of an evening, but can't help but feel it could be something more with just a little expenditure.

The Gandhi Indian Cuisine

7/8 New N Rd, Exeter EX4 4HH, UK – 01392 272119

Fantastic meal here tonight. The food was amongst the best I have tasted. I would recommend the chicken dopiaza. The staff are extremely friendly and the service was very quick. The bill at the end was also very reasonable. I will certainly be going here the next time I am in Exeter again. Totally deserving of the full 5 stars.

Good food, a very friendly service and a good value for your money.

Italian Pasta and Pizza Restaurants

ASK Italian

5 Cathedral Cl, Exeter EX1 1EZ, UK – 01392 427127

Charming venue even though a chain. Brief but workmanlike menu. Surprised, for example, that there was no mention of anchovies on pizza in an Italian restaurant. But our table was a comfortable size, and right beside a fireplace built in 1415 (photo) that now serves as a recessed wine rack. It wasn't as busy as Prezzo, where it wasn't immediately clear that there were only available tables for two on that day meaning we and another foursome hung around in a queue before finding out and going somewhere else. ASK seemed much more efficient on entry so I'm glad we ended up trying it and I'd go again.

Delicious food, lovely interior and exterior seating areas. Fast and friendly service.

21 Gandy St, Exeter EX4 3LS, UK – 01392 920606

The food here was absolutely delicious! We had pizzas that were amazing. My friend and I decided to do the Zizzi spin. However, after we redeemed the coins from the Zizzi spins, there were hidden terms and conditions that were not expressed in the coupon itself. We 'purchased' the free main course, but after buying the coupon, it said we had to buy another main course to get the free main course. Otherwise, I would have just gotten the 20 pound voucher. It is a pretty good deal, but the coupon did not state that those were the terms of the coupon.

Went on a Thursday night. Suprisingly busy but that just meant an enjoyable ambience. Selection of food on menu was very good including plenty of tempting options for the vegetarian member of our party. Ordered a meat and vegetable antipasti to start - both delicious and left us wanting more! Mains were very good - pizzas very large with good toppings. Room was just about left for puddings all of which went down a treat!! Service was very attentive and friendly and all questions were answered with a smile which is nice to see. All in all, highly recommended.

Bella Italia Exeter

92 Queen St, Exeter EX4 3RD, UK – 01392 211778

Fantastic place to go for a meal. The staff are helpful and friendly and took time out to go through the menu with us and recommended meals according to our requirements (thank you Josh!). This was our 4th visit over the last couple of months and we were made to feel like regulars the second we walked in through the door. We were using our discount vouchers for a £5 meal (courtesy of 3's Wantu app) and other places have made us feel like we weren't worth their time and attention as we were paying less but not here. Roll on the next visit!

A lovely romantic restaurant. Good menu and they do special offers on line. Nice Italian menu. With interesting deserts. All drinks also sold here.

Vegetarian or Vegan Restaurants

15 North St, Exeter EX4 3QS, UK – 01392 258473

Booked first to reserve a place, which was recommended. On arrival we were greeted and seated. Main was delicious and the sticky toffee pudding was the best I've ever had. Very good service, showing vegetarian/vegan food is top quality. Tremendous experience.

Lovely evening/dinner with my daughter Pip at Herbie's. I had never eaten 'Jack Fruit" before, I had it in a wrap, hope to try it again soon! Enjoyed our meals and puddings. Thanks to Fiona for looking after us so well! 😎

Lloyd's Kitchen

16 Catherine Street, City Centre, Exeter EX1 1EU, UK – 01392 499333

Love breakfast here. Probably the best fried bread I have ever had and the coffee is well rounded, not bitter, perfectly made.

Visited on a Wednesday morning, As always, a fantastic breakfast. Can't wait to go back. Eggs Benedict with black pudding was a very generous portion.

The Plant Cafe

1 Cathedral Yard, City Centre, Exeter EX1 1HJ, UK – 01392 428144

One of the best places to eat in Exeter, hands down. The food is delicious, the staff friendly, and the location perfect. They also do great coffee and tea with a range of milk alternatives. If you're looking for a recommendation, the falafel is excellent. All the food comes in healthy portions. You'd better get in early if you want a seat!

Friendly, helpful staff, incredible vegan cakes and a lovely outside seating area overlooking the cathedral. Delicious soups, salads, tarts wraps etc. Great for breakfast, brunch or lunch on cold or warm days. My only wish is that they were open for Sunday brunch!

Wine Bars and Cocktail Bars

Artigiano Espresso & Wine Bar

248 High St, Exeter EX4 3PZ, UK – 01392 499169

A lovely and cosy place, really nicely decorated. Drinks are lovely too. However a few issues. The food at the bar where you order drinks is uncovered and there are a lot of flies sitting on the food which put me off ordering something to eat. Both of the times myself and my boyfriend have been we have been given dirty cutlery, lastly there are a lot of cobwebs on the ceiling which isn’t very nice to look at. The place has a lot of potential just could do with being cleaner.

Amazing place. Went there with friends on a Thursday night, and we found out that Thursdays are live music night. The singers were absolutely amazing, the atmosphere was great and we had a really fun night. The hot chocolate was so good, the seating was comfortable and cute.

The Bike Shed Theatre and Cocktail Bar

162/3 Fore St, Exeter EX4 3AT, UK – 01392 434169

Brilliant comedy night out in a great small and very interesting venue. The staff couldn’t have been nicer. The lady in the box office who saved our night (we messed up the timings) deserves 100 stars.

Visited during the 50's and 60's night, very friendly atmosphere with good music. Unique decor and an enjoyable experience.

Rendezvous Wine Bar

38-40 Southernhay E, Exeter EX1 1PE, UK – 01392 270222

This gem of a restaurant is well worth a visit! The food is of a very high standard and the service is great and always with a smile. We love to come here when we want to dine out and have never been disappointed. They have just received an Exeter Living Business Award for the second year running which is very well deserved.

This is a lovely basement venue tucked away from the busy centre (but just within walking distance). The venue specialises in Wine- with a choice of fragrant quality wines from around the world. Prices are quite good and there's a limited menu of dishes available. Decor and general ambience of the place is relaxed and has a rustic feel.
