Hotels

Innkeeper's Lodge Exeter

Rydon Lane, Exeter EX2 7HL, UK – 0845 112 6076

Rooms where fine. Was a bit to noisy to get a good night's sleep. Especially in the corridor at the night with people passing through and the slamming doors. Rooms could be bigger. Staying at better places.

Lovely hotel, clean and comfortable rooms. Excellent Toby carvery next door for dinner and breakfast. Excellent value for money.

Premier Inn Exeter Countess Wear

398 Topsham Rd, Exeter EX2 6HE, UK – 0871 527 8386

Excellent accommodation very clean and tidy friendly helpful staff on reception.... slept well. We used this hotel as we had to be at the hospital for early morning appointment highly recommend

Nice and tidy hotel rooms. Free parking and very near the motorways. Staff were extremely friendly.

Great Western Hotel

Exeter EX4 4NU, UK – 01392 274039

Hotel in great location right next to Exeter St Davids railway station and not too far from the city centre. Room was a reasonable size but in need of being updated. House keeping was minimal. Breakfast was good with self service for cereal, toast and juices with choice of cooked breakfast which included smoked haddock with poached eggs, full English breakfast with vegetarian option available. The menu does have the basics of hash browns, beans and tomatoes to suit those on vegan diets. All in all a comfortable stay but the lack of house keeping experienced during my stay here is the main reason for the lower scoring.

An excellent room and breakfast. Lovely local jam sold in the kitchen too.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Oddfellows

60 New N Rd, Exeter EX4 4EP, UK – 01392 209050

Nice bar walking in from the train station. Is small and quirky but definitely a place I would take family or friends. Interior decor and ambience is nice, the wine choice there is very good. Its something different from alot of the other bars in Exeter. Outside seating area is nice.

Always enjoyable, not too busy although very quiet when we visited this time. Cocktail bar upstairs can be unreliable as often booked for private parties.

Mill on the Exe

Bonhay Rd, Exeter EX4 3AB, UK – 01392 214464

Visited late afternoon on a drizzly Sunday so this probably wasn't the best time. However the carvery was still going downstairs and people seemed to be enjoying their food. If the weather had been nicer it would have been a lovely location to have sat outside by the river. It was busy when we arrived but staff seemed to be keeping everything clean and tidy. We didn't want to eat so went downstairs to a bit of an odd area in the back. It gave the impression of a couple of sofas and tables having been dumped there. But we reorganised a bit and had a quiet drink. Ordering a lemonade and a coke resulted in a pint of each and I would have preferred smaller glasses really. The only thing that put me off was that on the main floor I got a whiff of something I'd rather not have smelt.. the toilets.. it was there when I climbed up the stairs to go too.. it would put me off eating here to be honest but nobody else seemed bothered from what I observed. I will be back in the warmer weather!

Great for sitting outside by the river when the Sun is out. The carvery was amazing! Staff were helpful. Good selection of beer, wine and spirits. Looking forward to try the rest of the menu!

The Hour Glass

21 Melbourne St, Exeter EX2 4AU, UK – 01392 258722

What a superb little find. Quirky pub with an array of wines to complement the food. We had the Duck & a risotto which were both superb. Extremely friendly staff and the odd cat walking along the bar. Dog friendly & a lovely atmosphere. Can't wait to go back.

Good atmosphere, good beer, just needs to have the fire place chimney swept since it is very smoky here when fire is lit

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

Cedar Lodge Hotel

41-47 Okehampton Rd, Exeter EX4 1EH, UK – 01392 413101

Good location really nice rooms and staffs and breakfast was great!

Really good staff who were very helpful and welcoming. Stayed for 2 nights in a twin room. Lovely clean, comfortable beds and a good sized ensuite with bath as well as shower. For the price, in such a central position, I don't think I could fault this hotel. Will definitely be back. Thank you for our stay.

Collingwood's Bed and Breakfast

Broompark Nurseries, Exeter Rd, Exeter, Topsham, Exeter EX3 0LY, UK – 01392 873884

A great little B&B, very welcoming and they look after their guests very well

A fantastic B&B run by a lovely couple Derek and Carol. They couldn't be more welcoming, The room was great, spacious clean with tea and coffee making facilities and a good en-suite. The breakfast was excellent and filled me up for the day with a good selection of breakfast cereals, toast, full English and plenty of tea or coffee. In summary I would not hesitate to recommend this B&B.

Townhouse Exeter

54 St. Davids Hill, Exeter EX4 4DT, UK – 01392 494994

Very nice hosts, an amazing breakfast and cosy rooms make this the place to stay in Exeter. Our room was overlooking the garden and the nearby church. Beautiful view. The location minutes from the centre. If we will revisit Exeter we will stay there again.

Had a recent stay here, I chose the single room with a separate bathroom. I loved the room and the bathroom, very comfy bed and an area with a desk so I could do some work. Great location, a short walk from the shopping centre with so many places to chose from for food too. Breakfast was good too, impressed there was a choice of bread too, with my scrambled egg on toast :) Free box of chocolates on arrival as I booked direct with them, nice touch. Would stay again and recommend this place!

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Exeter Self Catering | Exeter Serviced Apartments

3, Clifton Court, Clifton Hill, Exeter EX1 2EL, UK – 07971 835360

The apartment is beautifully furnished and centrally located. Very convenient and quick wi-fi service and a safe car park at the back. We even found milk coffee at tea which arriving later in the evening was much appreciated. The comfort and attention to detail in the apartment made our stay all the more pleasant and enjoyable. Highly recommended.

SITU Serviced Apartments

West Street Mews, West St, Exeter EX1 1BB, UK – 01392 690079

I stayed at these apartments for 7months. They are very comfortable and spacious, one will also find a sky box in the living room and further 2 tvs upstairs, 1 in each room. Furthermore, when anything crops us, even the simplest thing such as the fire alarm battery dies, or a bulb runs out, once you contact the staff members at West Street Mews they promptly reply and come to your assistance. I never had anything to complain about, both Phil and Alexis are helpful, understanding and reachable. I was extending my stay every month and Phil was very accommodating from that perspective given that I only give him a month ahead notice that I need to extend my stay. Will definitely be my first choice to stay whenever I return to Exeter.

Lovely apartment in a great location, very close to the quay & center. Bedrooms were spacious and beds very comfy with lots of natural light from the Velux windows. Kitchen had everything we needed and the living space was very comfortable, although a little dark during the day. Would happily book again.
