Hotels

Queens Court Hotel

Bystock Terrace, Exeter EX4 4HY, UK – 01392 272709

Lovely bedroom. 5 star breakfast. Perfect for night out in exeter

Very spacious room, clean and well equipped. Good breakfast

Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel

Queen St, Exeter EX4 3SP, UK – 0871 376 9018

A lovely hotel with some amazing period features. The rooms are spacious and have everything you would expect. There is surprisingly little noise from the road even in the front bedrooms. The staff are very friendly and they are extremely helpful. It is ideally situated by the Exeter central station for those travelling. The only down side is the parking is limited and a little on the pricy side.

I attended for an event. The room we had was a decent size, and easily fit our group of 40 people. There were much larger rooms available as well. The meals were light but overall satisfying and good. The staff was very quick, friendly, and helpful. It did feel like we were being watched by certain staff members at times, but this was mostly by management, and the waiting staff was very polite and respectful. I felt very welcomed and would visit again. The hotel had a large beautiful staircase which is perfect for taking photos. It winds upwards and leads towards the residence rooms. The hotel also has a well stocked bar, and very friendly staff all around. I would recommend this venue for a social event.

Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel

Southernhay E, Exeter EX1 1QF, UK – 01392 412812

Mercure Exeter Southgate has proved to be an exceptionally wonderful hotel that provides guests with high standards of service, amenities and facilities. The hotel facilities are listed on their website, but what they have not mentioned is how brilliant, friendly, attentive, efficient and professional their staff are. The hotel offers beautiful well furnished quiet rooms complete with flat screen TVs, coffee making facilities among other amenities. One can also make use of the swimming pool and other facilities. Thank you for a wonderful stay and see you again in the near future.

We visit Devon 3-4 times every year and it is always a pleasure to stay in the Mercure Southgate. T he recently redecorated rooms are comfortable. Bathrooms are nice but a bit too dark. They require more lighting. Also can do with a hand towel hook on the wall. Initially we used to stay in the superior rooms but these do not have the chest of drawers which we find in the Classic Rooms. T his is an important feature, otherwise without these chest of draws there is not sufficient space to put our clothes. If this point is put right, them we will start using again the superiors rooms as long as they have been redecorated. Another point which has been introduced recently is the payment of £12 per 24 hours for the car park. This is most irritating as I believe clients should not have to pay for parking the car whilst staying at the hotel.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Oddfellows

60 New N Rd, Exeter EX4 4EP, UK – 01392 209050

Nice bar walking in from the train station. Is small and quirky but definitely a place I would take family or friends. Interior decor and ambience is nice, the wine choice there is very good. Its something different from alot of the other bars in Exeter. Outside seating area is nice.

Lovely Place to eat. Good help staff. Nice meal; s. Good management.

Mill on the Exe

Bonhay Rd, Exeter EX4 3AB, UK – 01392 214464

Nice pub/restaurant, great garden looking out onto the river. Food is good with vegetarian and vegan options that don't seem like an afterthought on the menu. Specials board always seems to have something interesting. Can get pretty busy and noisy with families on a weekend. Music was so bad today I left half a pint on the table. Just utter noise in an otherwise nice quiet nearly empty pub.

We enjoyed our Christmas meal here recently. Large smart interior split over two levels with views over the river Exe, weir and award winning cycle bridge! Friendly staff and the food was good. Very good selection of beers and some good real ales, including the St Austell brewery favorites. There is parking on-site, which I reckon could get full on a busy summers day..however also very easy to walk or cycle as it's adjacent to the cycle route.

The Hour Glass

21 Melbourne St, Exeter EX2 4AU, UK – 01392 258722

What a superb little find. Quirky pub with an array of wines to complement the food. We had the Duck & a risotto which were both superb. Extremely friendly staff and the odd cat walking along the bar. Dog friendly & a lovely atmosphere. Can't wait to go back.

Traditional beers with excellent food in a cosy venue full of characterful nooks and crannies. Marred only by occasionally gruff service.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

The Bendene

15-16 Richmond Rd, Exeter EX4 4JA, UK – 01392 213526

Perfectly situated in the centre of Exeter with limited free parking (which is rare in Exeter), this B&B was perfect for a place to lay your head after a night out. The shared bathroom is something to get your head around but they were clean and modern. The single room I had was adequate in size and had a large LCD tv, tea/coffee, a sink unit and wardrobe. It was a bit cold at night and the duvet didn't quite cover my 5ft 10 body which was a down point. The staff were very friendly and the cooked breakfast was fine.

Samantha and team are absolutely brilliant. She is so friendly and welcoming. I have stayed regularly over the past year for training with the university, and would recommend the Bendene to anyone. Thanks so much Samantha!

Woodbine Guest Accommodation

1 Woodbine Terrace, Exeter EX4 4LJ, UK – 01392 757870

I visited this lovely guest house at the beginning of August 2017 it was nice and clean it is very convenient to get to the town by just walking I had no car, my room was very comfortable and my bed very comfortable to there was tea and coffee you could make with goodies to eat, the owner was very friendly and always helpful, there was more than enough to eat for breakfast which was given to you in a very unique way it was brought to my room each morning in a delightful large picnic basket when I lifted the lid and looked inside I was very pleasantly surprised of what was inside it I loved the large hot bacon gibreta sandwich there was cereal fresh fruit more croissants jam marmalade a bottle of milk that reminded my of my school days many years ago bottle of orange juice and other items silverware not plastic. I highly recommend this lovely Victorian guest house if I'm in the area again this would be my first choice to stay it was nice a quiet to I had been traveling many hours from San Diego California and needed a nice quiet relaxing rest and I got it there. Thank you..

Great location, walkable from train station and town. The room was clean and had a homely feel to it. Welcome was friendly and personal. Amenities are more than I would expect, so many choices of tea! The breakfast was wonderful, more than enough food and of Good, fresh quality. 10/10!

Cedar Lodge Hotel

41-47 Okehampton Rd, Exeter EX4 1EH, UK – 01392 413101

Really good staff who were very helpful and welcoming. Stayed for 2 nights in a twin room. Lovely clean, comfortable beds and a good sized ensuite with bath as well as shower. For the price, in such a central position, I don't think I could fault this hotel. Will definitely be back. Thank you for our stay.

Good breakfast, clean rooms, helpful staff.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

The apartment is beautifully furnished and centrally located. Very convenient and quick wi-fi service and a safe car park at the back. We even found milk coffee at tea which arriving later in the evening was much appreciated. The comfort and attention to detail in the apartment made our stay all the more pleasant and enjoyable. Highly recommended.
